It’s clear that mistakes continue to pile up at Twitter since billionaire Elon Musk took it over. After but fake Connor McDavid managed to “verify” his account for spreading lies, now other athletes are being targeted by fraudsters.
Basketball legend LeBron James and star MLB pitcher Aroldis Chapman were parodied by users who managed to ‘verify’ their profiles on Twitter.
The same problem was reported on Nintendo’s side. A fake account labeled “certified” went viral after posting a photo of Mario making an obscene gesture.
Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani was also the subject of a similar hoax.
These profiles have been suspended in the last few hours.
The creation of these fake accounts coincides with the launch of Twitter’s paid subscription. For the amount of 8 dollars per month, the user can get the mention “certified” on his profile. This initiative aimed to reduce “interference” on the platform.
