The the city of Rennesin partnership with the Regional Committee and the Ligue de Bretagne de basketball, has just been officially designated as the host cityFrench Open Championship in 3×3 basketball there French Basketball Federation (FFBB). The city will host this competition on the esplanade General de Gaulle for four days, in July 2023.

In addition to the official tournament, which will gather almost a hundred players, numerous free activities will be offered:
- Initiations 3×3 in city recreation centers and clubs.
- Competition (dunks, dexterity, addressing).
- Tournaments departmental and intercompany.
What is 3×3 basketball?
Three-a-side basketball, commonly called 3×3 basketball or simply 3×3, is a variant of basketball, against two teams of three players each instead of five, on one half the field.
It is considered the first urban team sport in the world of basketball 3×3 comes from free and creative practice street basketball. The popular success of this young sport led International Olympic Committee include basketball 3×3 in the program Games in Tokyo 2020.
With regard to the Olympic and Paralympic Games in Paris in 2024, Rennes is one of the communities that received the Terre de Jeux 2024 designation. Our city is on the list of designated training centers. Eight venues will be able to accommodate foreign delegations preparing for the Olympic and Paralympic Games in 20 disciplines, including basketball, swimming, Paralympic athletics, judo, rugby sevens and fencing.
The sport is now part of the official list 28 Olympic sports and the events will take place at the Place de la Concorde in Paris in 2024.
French Open, national final
The French Open is part of it Superliga 3×3 FFBB, which is the official round of the 3×3 tournament organized by the French Basketball Federation, for adult players. It is structured around 4 tournament levels:
- l’Open Start : tournaments open to all participants of the discipline, organized throughout the year.
- l’Open Plus Access : tournaments open to everyone organized by departmental committees. An Open Plus Access winner is eligible for the Open Plus with which they are associated.
- l’Open More : teams are selected according to their position in the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) rankings and according to the results of Opens Plus Access.
- l’French Open : the national final that brings together the teams that won the most points in the Open Plus tournament and which will therefore take place in Rennes in 2023.
