Two basketball courts are under construction on the Stade des Martyrs esplanade. In order to speed up the work of these double dens, between 150 and 200 workers work day and night.
“Our goal is to finish before the end of February. The land must be delivered three months before the start of the games,” engineer Obed Babese, who is one of the site supervisors managed by Compagnie Générale de Construction (CGT), explained to ACTUALITE.CD.
He is convinced of the deadline: “All we have left is the concreting of the playground, the stands are in a metal structure. They will be delivered to Kinshasa no later than November 24, 2023. Here are the reinforced concrete structures on which the mixed stands will be placed.”
Martyrs Stadium will now have three basketball courts. Two new ones and one old one that is being renovated.
“Two twin plots would be delivered at the same time. There is also an old stadium that is being renovated. The number of places will increase there. There will also be a metal roof structure. It is also ordered”.
For his part, Isidore Kwandja Ngembo, director of the National Committee of the 9th Games of Francophonie (CNJF) is also optimistic:
“We are moving forward slowly and safely. To date, we have 30 countries that have already confirmed their participation, out of 42 countries that have expressed their intention to participate in the IX Games of Francophonie”.
Basketball, volleyball, tennis and other sports can be played on both courts.
